Welcome to Lena's Custom Desserts featuring assorted delicious cakes, desserts, and pastries. My name is Lena Steinbrenner and I reside in Tucson, AZ. I've been a Personal Pastry Chef for about 17 years, baking for 21 years, professionally.
As a young child, I did the baking in my family. Everyone has their favorite cake. I would bake a Wacky Cake, Upside-down Pineapple Cake, Pina Colada Cake, or in that time, there were Betty Crocker 'Snackin Cakes'. I didn't do any fancy decorating with a piping bag and tip until I worked for a local hotel and resort from 1988-9 to 1992. The resort has their own pastry shop where I was transferred from preparing salads and sandwiches(pantry cook) to a pastry cook. I had no experience in this field of work but the Executive Chef allowed me to transfer to the Pastry Dept. It was a great experience for me. I learned various desserts, french pastries, petit fours, individual plated desserts, Croquembouche, and wedding cakes. The 3-Dimensional Custom Cakes are self-taught and a great challenge for me. Most of the Sugar Decorated Cookies are custom made shapes by using a paper template and the designs are unique.
